The canary date palm or Phoenix canarienis is one of the most common palm trees found in Las Vegas. It can grow to be 30-60 ft tall and is slow growing. It is considered to be a hardy palm tree and can be grown wherever the temperature doesn’t drop below 14 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time.
The canary date palm produces a fruit that should be trimmed off yearly. If left too late in the year the fruit will drop to the ground and burst.
Sometimes the canary date palm is mistakenly called a pineapple palm. It is not related to pineapples in anyway, but this name comes from its appearance which does resemble a giant pineapple.
