Trees require care and attention on a regular basis. We know this, yet sometimes we fail to do the same. Hence we end up with consequences leading to poor growth of the trees; sometimes they even die. To be frank, it is really simple and straightforward! Taking care of your trees is just like bringing up a child. Proper nourishment and proper attention is all they seek.

Talking about the various ways in which we can take care of the trees, here is a list which will inform you regarding the same:

1) Tree and shrub pruning

As the trees grow with time, they seek direction. The same can be done in many forms, such as tree pruning, thinning, removing the deadwood etc. There are professional tree care firms who comprise of a team of professionally trained arborists possessing specialized training, knowledge and equipments. Because of their expertise they have the appropriate “eye” for whatever necessary is required to be done. Pruning enhances the appearance and value of landscaping, nevertheless its importance is a lot more than it.

The importance of proper tree pruning is mentioned below:

  • It helps eradicate the weak, dead, damaged and the diseased branches.
  • It can be helpful in developing the growth pattern of young trees.
  • It helps minimize the risk of storm damages.
  • It ensure the streets, roads, footpaths, structures and overhead crossings etc are all clear .

2) Understanding the various diseases that the trees might suffer from.

Just the way we are susceptible to various diseases that hamper our health and growth, the trees go through the same. It is an important aspect of tree care that the trees are checked timely so as to figure out which tree is suffering from any kind of disease.

Once figured out, the same needs to be dealt with immediately.

Some of the common diseases are:

Dutch Elm Disease

Dutch Elm disease has influenced numerous Elm trees all over the North-Eastern scenes. As a preventive measure, Elm trees can be effectively injected in the trunk during the spring or summer season with a treatment that will avoid the advancement of the Dutch Elm Disease parasite for up to 3 years.

Fruit Tree Diseases

There are particular parasitic diseases, and bug and parasite actions that regularly influence many fruit bearing trees. These may affect the generation of fruits and vegetables.

Sycamore Anthracnose Diseases

Sycamore Anthracnose is a typical tree infection that leads to extreme defoliation, shoot die back, and twig breakage of the Sycamore trees. This can happen particularly during the wet phase of the spring season. Since its exceptionally hard to control through traditional sickness remedies, it is suggestible to utilizes a macro-infusion setup that will avoid contamination of your Sycamore Trees for a long time.

3) Tree fertilizing is crucial and should be done wisely.

Proper nourishment is quite crucial for the development and growth of the trees.

Fertilizing helps in adequate tree growth, ensuring a healthy and disease free tree. For the same it recommended to be selective about the fertilizers used. Natural manure is really great for the trees.

Consulting a tree care expert will ensure that your tree fertilizing process is taken care off, precisely the way you would have wanted it to be.

The winter season comes with many associated opportunities and challenges for people especially who love nature and trees. The temperature fluctuations caused due to storms, ice causes severe problems to the trees. Being a human being, you have no control over nature and weather conditions, you need to take extra care of your trees during winter season.

Following are a few issues that are encountered in tree care during winter season and how you should take care of your trees:

Breaking of Tree Branches: During winter season the wood of the trees get hardened and become brittle. It also gets damaged due to strong winds. This issue gets aggravated with accumulation of ice and snow. To minimize this risk, you need to strengthen the branches of the tree by providing additional support or using rope to tie up the branches. Use warm water over the area to remove any ice or you can use blow drier.

Frost Cracking: Due to temperature fluctuations the stress between inner wood and outer bark leads to cracks. You need to use tree blankets for cold weather. Further you can apply wilt prof in order to minimize winter damage and moisture loss.

Reduced Growth Rate: This problem occurs because of rupture of cell walls on new tips of branches. To reduce this risk, you need not proceed with pruning of the trees. The use of fertilizers having rich amount of nitrogen is also to be minimized.

Lack of hydration for Trees: This problem occurs when trees absorb less water from ground in comparison it looses. To avoid this, you can lay a thick layer of organic mulch around the base of the tree before winter starts. This will reduce moisture loss and act as a temperature buffer for the roots. Another technique could be removing of any irrigation bags before the temperature goes very down. Remove traces of ice with handle hands keeping in mind not to harm the trees.

Animals and Rodent Infestations: Small species like mice, rabbits, squirrels cause a lot of trouble for plants. You can use devices such as wire mesh to reduce this menace. Alternatively, you can use repellents to scare these species. Not only this, the bigger animals also never hesitate to rub against your defenseless trees. The better method be to surround the base of the tree with wire cage to keep bigger animals away from trees.

Trees are majestic creatures, standing like sentinels in the hierarchy of mother nature. They are the reason we are all alive. They provide us with shade, fruit, flowers, wood and so many other countless things that we seldom think of but use almost everyday for general use.

Most common of the gifts from the trees and the most valuable to mankind, Oxygen. Come to think of it, we are still living in a world where barter system exists. Well, in a way. We breathe in the oxygen from the trees and breathe out Carbon di-Oxide for them to use, only to get more oxygen in return, and the wheel keeps turning.

Their are trees which are thousands of years old, but are still growing and thriving. Even though they are the oldest known surviving living things, they also need care and nurture from time to time. Without proper love and attention, they too shall wither and die.

Here are a few bullets one should have in mind if one wants to take good care of one’s trees. If followed to the point and religiously, one can never go wrong with their trees.

Pruning:-

Like humans need a periodic haircut for proper hair growth, same goes for trees. Without proper trimming of dead or weak branches, their growth is hindered. If pruning is not done atleast once a year, it can lead to unhealthy growth and an unstable structure. Weak or dead branches should not be left unattended. When required trimming and pruning is done on a regular basis, the tree is allowed more space to expand and grow. V shaped branches are the weakest ones, and should be targeted first.

Fertilize:-

Fertilizers are the nutrients that trees need to grow and bloom. However, before applying fertilizers, one should know what fertilizer he should use for what kind of tree. Different trees have different requirements. One can also consult with an arborist and learn the application of these fertilizers and their frequency of use. Excess fertilizer can again cause the destruction of the tree.

Mulch:-

A mulch is a piece of cloth that is put around the trees or plants on the ground, to retain the moisture in the soil, control oxygen levels and regulate the temperature, all of which contribute to the direct development of the tree. It is one of the most widely used, effective and easy techniques used around the world to help nurture the growth of the tree.

Storm proofing:-

No matter how much we prune or fertilize, no one can withstand the wrath of mother nature. Trees should be taken proper care of, and some provision should be made to combat the strong winds of a storm, for it can strip the tree off its leaves and flowers. Let alone that, storms are known even to uproot the tree itself. Instead of rehabilitating damaged trees, they should be removed to protect the surrounding trees from any damage it might cause.

Conclusion

Remember to water them as often as you can, no matter what the season. They increase the property value, regulate air conditioning and appear soothing to the eye. All in all, trees are the essence of our lives, and in the same way they stand in the sun to give us shade, they too deserve a little care from our end.

To grow strong and healthy, a tree needs proper nutrients, a great deal of sunlight, and adequate watering. Proper tree care means more than simply saturating the ground around the tree with water, as that will do more damage than good, especially to a young tree. The following are several tips for watering trees to achieve the best results:

For young trees, water is important. They will need sufficient water to grow properly. Water heavily a few times a week, so the water will sink into the deep soil, encouraging deeper root growth. Adding mulch above the ground will also help to keep the soil from drying out in direct sunlight.
Too much water, as mentioned above, can damage a young tree. The ground should be moist, but not soggy. Moist ground allows oxygen to pass through, whereas soggy soil will erode and take away important nutrients.
After the first two years, a tree will be able to withstand periods of drought and it will become less necessary to water it regularly. Drought resistant trees are a good option if you live in a consistently dry climate. Tree care in Las Vegas might be more difficult than in southern California, for example.
Soaker hoses and drip irrigation systems are particularly useful in keeping the soil moist and oxygenated but also nutrient rich. Sprinklers are also good at keeping the entire lawn watered, allowing the tree roots to spread far throughout the ground.
Watering the leaves of fruiting and deciduous trees could damage the fruit, encouraging the growth of fungus or disease. Water does the most use within the roots.

Proper pruning makes the difference between a beautiful landscape and one filled with tangled branches. Aside from aesthetic appeal, tree pruning results in vigorous new growth that keeps trees healthy and vibrant. Tree care also ensures safety by removing dead or broken branches, which are otherwise a safety hazard since they can fall on people, power lines, or your home.

Tree care in Las Vegas is something every homeowner should prioritize. Here are a few tips to make your tree pruning as productive and effective as possible:

  • Prune during the dormant season. While you can technically invest in tree care at any time, it’s more effective to prune a tree when it’s dormant. This results in explosive new growth during the following spring. If you prune during the summer, then wait until the season’s growth is finished so you don’t “dwarf” the growth of the tree.
  • Invest in proper equipment. From scissor anvil pruning sheers to scissor action lopping sheers, it’s important to invest in equipment for the task at hand. While anyone can research and practice the rules of pruning, using the correct tools is paramount to success. This also ensures safety and a job well done.
  • Target V-shaped branches. In general, V-shaped branches are the weaker ones that should be eliminated. Keep U-shaped angles, as these are strong and likely to grow. Furthermore, maintain the ratio of living crown to tree height above two-thirds. If you’re not sure which branches to eliminate while tree pruning, target branches that cross other branches or otherwise obstruct them.

With so many considerations, techniques, and equipment necessary for proper tree care, it’s important to consider hiring a professional tree service in Las Vegas. Not only is it more time efficient, but it’s also possible to save money in the long run while ensuring the greatest tree care possible.

Curb appeal matters. Whether you’re trying to increase the value of your home or simply improve your quality of life, landscaping should be a priority. Consider the benefits of professional Tree Service:

  • Improved curb appeal. Beautifully manicured yards could be the determining factor in whether or not a prospective buyer considers purchasing your home.
  • Cost-savings. Strategically positioned trees block sunrays from overheating the home, which results in lower cooling costs.
  • Safety. Trees should be planted at a safe distance from the home to prevent potential structural or foundational damage as the tree grows.

With the benefits landscaping can provide, it’s critical to find a professional tree service in Las Vegas that you can trust to get the job done right. Be sure to ask the following questions before hiring a professional tree service:

  • Can you provide a current certificate of insurance? Business license? It’s important to remember that tree trimming and tree removal are extremely dangerous tasks, susceptible to accidents and equipment malfunction. Well-equipped and experienced professionals are necessary not only for safety, but also for a quality job. Ensure you’re working with a legitimate and reputable business.
  • What equipment will you be using? A professional tree service in Las Vegas should follow the laws set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Hard-hats and other professional equipment are required on-site to increase safety. Additionally, ask what tools will be used for each task. For instance, “spikes” should only be used for tree removal, not tree trimming, as they can create unhealthy wounds in the tree trunk.
  • Can I get references and an estimate? Before hiring a tree service, always ask for references. This allows you to speak with previous customers and gauge their satisfaction with the tree trimming and tree removal services they received. An estimate in writing also provides you with a realistic expectation for the price you should pay.

Las Vegas has four main types of palm trees:

  1. Mexican Fan Palm – These palms are slender but can grow to over 75 feet tall.
  2. California Fan Palm – They have a larger diameter than the Mexican Fan Palm, but don’t grow quite as tall.
  3. Canary Date Palms–These palms don’t grow as tall, but do have large, bushy fronds.
  4. Date Palm–This type of palm has a trunk about 18 inches in diameter and grows to be approximately 60 feet tall.

You have to care for each type of tree a little differently.  With the Mexican Fan Palm, for example, that type of tree can handle more drastic pruning.  Generally, you’ll be okay if you prune from a 10 o’clock to a 2 o’clock position, but you do have to make sure you leave enough fronds to maintain the health of the tree.

California Fan Palms require a little extra caution because the fronds and seed pods grow larger and are heavier.  If you hire a tree service, they cost a little more to trim.

With Canary Date Palms, you have to prune them between early May and early June.  If you trim them earlier, they’ll grow new date stocks and make a mess of your yard.  If you trim them later than that, the fruit has already ripened and makes trimming more difficult.

The Date Palm is more sensitive to pruning.  Trim these palms too much, and you’ll harm the tree.

If all this sounds too complicated for you, remember you can always hire a professional tree service to do the care for you instead.

Las Vegas Palm Tree Care

Other General Palm Tree Care Tips

Besides those specific tips, here are some additional tips to keep in mind when caring for your own palms:

  1. Watering:  If you plant a new palm, make sure you use a 30-50% sand/soil mix.  Water it every day of the week also.  The tips of the fronds will turn brown if your palm isn’t getting enough water.  For an established palm, watering twice a month during the summer and once every six weeks during the colder season will suffice.
  2. Fertilizing:  Don’t fertilize a new tree for the first 3-4 months.  You could harm the tree more than anything else.
  3. Use Good Soil:  Canadian peat moss is one of the best soils for palm trees to grow in.  Remember, the cheaper the soil, the worse the results.  Don’t ever buy soil mixed with fertilizer.
  4. Pruning:  In most cases, fronds are shed naturally.  However, if you notice yellowing or browning fronds, remove them.  They take much-needed nutrients away from other parts of the tree.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be okay.  And remember, if you need palm tree removal or tree trimming done for you, you can always contact Nevada Tree Service at 702-433-4700.

Mulching

Benefits of Mulching

There are many benefits of mulching if it is done properly with other tree care strategies. When mulching the goal is to make the conditions for the tree as close to the native environment as possible. Trees do not do well when surrounded by grass.

Mulching will keep down weed growth, keep the soil and roots cooler in the summer heat, reduce evaporation, and natural mulch will degrade and return nutrients to the soil over time.

Mulching- How to do it properly

Mulch should be 2 to 3 inches deep. It should begin a few inches away from the trunk of the tree and extend it as far as the surrounding landscape will allow. Mulch should not be applied around and up the base of the trunk if it can be avoided. Plastic sheeting is not found in natural environments and should be avoided.

Soil Testing

Photo courtesy of USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Soil testing is an important method in caring for newly planted trees because it tells a lot about the makeup of the soil surrounding a tree. Important decisions for meeting a trees needs can be made with this information. To test the soil around a newly planted tree, a sample should be taken from the area just outside of where the roots were planted.

Nevada Tree, a Las Vegas tree service, can tell many things from soil testing, including the pH, soil type, concentration of important nutrients, and percentage of organic matter in the soil. This information will be used to determine the need for adding nutrients or adjusting the pH of the soil. It can also show how much water is filtering through the soil around the tree.

If you have any questions or need soil testing done around your trees, contact Nevada Tree at 702-433-4700.

There are many factors that affect how your trees should be watered including location of the tree, soil conditions, weather, any root damage, age of the tree, and species of the tree. Here are some basic guidelines to watering your trees in Las Vegas in the summer.

  1. Water deeply, not frequently. Most areas of Las Vegas have clay soil which is much slower to drain than sandy soil. This means trees do not need to be watered as often. When watering your tree you want to make sure the water seeps down to where the roots are, usually 18-24 inches deep. Don’t water again until this area has dried completely. Aim to water your trees about twice a week in the summer time. If you are having to water more often, consider watering the tree for longer periods each time.
  2. Don’t water directly on the trunk of the tree or the immediate surrounding area as this can make your tree susceptible to disease. The roots extend below ground far beyond the top of the tree. Water the ground under the outer portion of the tree canopy and beyond.
  3. Mulch can help keep the soil around the tree from drying out. Consider adding mulch to your landscaping to help conserve water.
  4. There are many different types of irrigation systems including hoses, drips, and sprinklers. Consult a professional tree service to find out which is best for your trees in your area.
